We went to the Hummingbird Festival this morning. It's a nice but very breezy day. Some wind and clouds are all we've seen of Hurricane Irene.
We were able to enjoy the festival without being hurried this year, and without the uncomfortable heat, so that was very nice.
We saw a young hummingbird get banded. Did you know that hummingbirds don't grow feathers on their stomachs? We got to see the bare bird belly. (Just blow and the feathers around it blow out of the way.)
We also got to see and pet some other creatures - snakes, giant spiders, and a Madagascar cockroach. A new attraction they had this year was a 3-D black light display about hummingbird predators. The girls got to wear wings with their 3-D glasses.
