We considered going to the beach for the weekend, but the girls said they'd had enough traveling in the van. We also considered repeating the events of last year's Labor Day weekend, but again, it involved a bit of a trip.
Instead, we decided to go to the plantation (to which we won the family membership last spring) to see the Revolutionary War re-enactment they had today, something we've never done before.
All of this was after Caitlyn's first soccer game this morning. My camera batteries were dead when we got to the field, so I didn't get any action shots today, unfortunately. I'll try again next week. Caty's team won, though, and she did great. She moved up to the next age bracket, so she's playing on a team with other 7 to 9-year-old girls.
We took our friend Lauri and Grandpa Steve to the plantation with us. There were a bunch of folks dressed up in period outfits, sharing about many aspects of Southern colonial life.
The battle itself didn't take too long, but it was loud. Thankfully, they only fired the cannon once. It was VERY loud.
We also made a few purchases in the gift shop. Caitlyn fell in love with the bonnets. Since she can use it for the upcoming first grade book character parade, I decided to go ahead and get it for her.
Grandpa Steve decided to rightly declare his Northern allegiance. It was the only one in the shop.
And a few parting words...
