What a wonderful day

We had a truly GREAT day today. Amazingly, I'm still awake enough to write about it.
We left the house at 8:30 this morning to go up to the lake for the day. The summer waterski program that Chad volunteers with ended a couple weeks ago, but today they had an advanced group skiing, most of whom compete in wheelchair sports on a national level. Chad usually drives one of two jet skis with "jumpers" on the back to follow the skiers in case someone falls, so that the jumpers can help the skier get upright in the water and get going again. The group that went today doesn't need any help though, so Chad really just went to cook lunch. (That's not what ended up happening, but that's for later in the story...)

It was CHILLY this morning, very unseasonably so. It was barely sixty degrees when we got to the lake a little after 9, when the first skier was scheduled to be in the water. There was a cold wind, and we had the girls in pants and jackets. It made me shiver just thinking about the skiers being in the water. It was actually a very nice morning, just chilly, and it turned into a gorgeous day, though it didn't make it out of the mid-70s. The girls spent the morning playing on the playgrounds and in the big sandbox and exploring in the trees and sand by the water.

(UNFORTUNATELY, although I remembered to bring the camera today, I realized soon after we got there that the battery was almost dead, so I missed many wonderful pictures of the day.)
Right around lunchtime, the boat broke. They finally got it fixed a couple hours later, but until then, Chad and the other jet ski driver got called upon to pull skiers behind the jet skis - clearly Plan B (which I didn't even know they could do.)While Chad was out pulling skiers, his dad stopped by to visit, but he had to leave to get ready for work before Chad was done. The girls always love spending time with Grandpa Steve, though.
Skiing finally wrapped up around 4:30, and then we went back to Dave Kiley's house with a bunch of the folks to hang out and have dinner. Dave is an amazing guy. Chad has been working with him for the last 10+ years that he has been volunteering, and Dave's son, "Juice," drives the other jet ski every week. Dave competed in multiple Paralympic Games in multiple sports and he has done a lot for the adaptive sports programs in this area. It was a great opportunity for me to get to know some of the folks involved with the program, especially some of the incredibly talented young people. Our girls had a wonderful time, and despite only getting about a 10 minute nap (from the lake to the house), they were very well-behaved.
We finally left around 8pm for the 40-minute drive home, and the girls all fell into bed when we got back. The day really went very smoothly, though. I feel very blessed.
