We had to go much more quickly through the Rockwell exhibit than I would have liked, but it was nice to share it with Chad and the girls, and they enjoyed many of the pictures, too. The exhibit had all of Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post covers on display, as well as many of his other works. I associate Norman Rockwell pictures with fond memories of my grandparent's house and remember looking through their big coffee table books of his artwork as a child. It was nice to see my girls appreciate his depictions of American life in another time, so different and yet so similar to our own.
The Audubon exhibit was small, but Amanda at least appreciated that Audubon had combined the two subjects she likes most - science and art, in attempting to catalog all the species of birds in North America.
The girls enjoyed looking through the books they had set out at the Eric Carle exhibit, matching the illustrations from the books with the pictures on the walls. Of course, we had to read several of them. They had artwork from Leo Lionni's Fish is Fish and Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, both of which we own, so that was neat.
They also had a modern sculpture exhibit upstairs that the girls really enjoyed. They were pieces of larger-than-life people, or parts of people, appearing to stick out of the floor or twisted in seemingly-hard-to-balance poses. The museum's regular collection also had a number of pieces of various types and time periods that the girls enjoyed. At least, that Amanda and Caitlyn enjoyed. Eliza was having a tired, grumpy day and just wanted to go lie down most of the time.
AND we were fortunate enough to be able to meet up with Wendy, a friend of mine from junior high/high school, who lives in Raleigh. It was very nice to catch up with her, and she got to meet the girls for the first time. (I forgot to take a picture, Wendy!)
In other news this week, Chad and I went to a great parenting conference at our church last weekend. While we were there, Amanda and Caitlyn went to a sports clinic they had for the older kids. They had a great time. They were in different buildings, but there were a lot of kids there that they knew. Amanda's group won the group competition, and Amanda was happy that she was able to demonstrate her hula-hoop skills to help her team. The group that ran the clinic is the same outreach organization that will be doing Caitlyn's soccer team this spring, so she is very excited about that.
Eliza and I had a good week with the letter C and Cats. We took a little field trip to the pet store one day. We ran out of time to make chocolate C cookies, but I might try to pick that up this afternoon. She has really enjoyed making the paper bag puppets for each animal. I'll try to post a picture of all of them after we do the Dog next week.

We went to a Norman Rockwell exhibit when it was at our local art museum. Perhaps it was the same one! My kids didn't care for it at all. In fact, they don't like the art museum at all. They only like going to the art-ventures where they get to make little crafts. Ah well, they're still young.
