A New Year

The girls have been enjoying all their new creative activities over the past several days. They've made play-dough cakes with fancy decorations, real (microwave) cakes with fondant icing, modeling clay animals, bead bracelets, and crazy pipe-cleaner creatures. The girls also enjoyed playing with the penguins in Amanda's never-gets-wet sand playground.

Amanda and Caitlyn had yesterday off for a teacher professional day, but Eliza started her new animal alphabet unit. We're going to focus on an animal for every letter of the alphabet, one each week. Our first animal is the alligator. She made a paper bag alligator puppet, learned about the differences between alligators and crocodiles, and danced to a great alligator song we have on cd. We also have an alligator book that features the months of the year, which we're reviewing this week. I'm planning to focus more on learning both upper and lowercase letters and sounds this time around the alphabet.
