We took the girls to meet my mom and step-dad for a little mini-vacation this week. We spent two nights camping in a National Forest and yesterday morning we biked about 15 miles of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The trail is mostly downhill - a shuttle takes you to the top and then you ride back into the town of Damascus,VA. The girls all did great, and it was a beautiful trip. Amanda and Caitlyn rode themselves, and Eliza sat in a seat on my bike.

The campground where we stayed was really nice. The girls enjoyed observing the local wildlife, namely some salamanders and what looked like a little kangaroo mouse that Caitlyn found jumping around outside the bath house.
We had afternoon thunderstorms both days and yesterday it rained through the evening. Last night we got a little wet (the tent broke and collapsed and we had to put it back up in the rain), but we managed. The girls were exhausted, so they slept great even though it was a little damp and drippy.
My mom stayed in a hotel with a pool, so that was a nice bonus!
This morning, we all went to Bristol Caverns in nearby Bristol, TN. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was truly amazing - a very large underground cave system, with many beautiful formations and a river 180 ft. underground. Amanda thoroughly enjoyed it, though Eliza and Caitlyn were a little scared at times.
(Most of my pictures didn't turn out well, so you'll have to take my word for it.)
We're home now, and I'll be doing laundry for the next couple of days.
