Odyssey Competition

Amanda's Odyssey of the Mind team went to regional competition yesterday. It was held at a nearby university and they spent the entire day. Their group presented their long-term solution in the morning and then had their spontaneous problem in the early afternoon. Amanda's team was scheduled to present third, out of eleven teams, and they were nervous after watching the first two teams in their division perform, because both had some significant difficulties. Thankfully, our team performance went very smoothly, and they responded to a few minor bumps without getting flustered. The judges laughed at all the right places and the question-and-answer time went well.

The team knew they'd done well, but they also knew that they also needed to do their best at the spontaneous problem if they hoped to place.
They did it! The competition awarded medals and trophies to the top three teams in each division/problem and the top two teams go on to the state finals. Our team came in second, in between two teams well-established and very successful in previous years in the competition. Everyone was so excited. I wish I could show you how happy they looked up on on the winner's platform. We believe it was the first time ever that a first year team from our region has made it to the state finals.

The state competition will be in a month, at a university several hours away. Very exciting!
