Spring Break

My nephew sent us a Flat Stanley right before spring break, so we decided to take Stanley around the town a bit during the week. (Amanda did a Flat Stanley project in first grade, so we knew just what to do.) We then compiled all the pictures into a little scrapbook with the story of Stanley's adventures and sent it back to his class.

We had one very rainy day during the week, so we took Flat Stanley to a Nature Museum.

The girls made a bunch of fairy houses in the backyard during spring break, and here is Flat Stanley next to one of the tree "apartments."

The second weekend of spring break was the Odyssey of the Mind state competition, about 4 1/2 hours away. It was going to be a long day, so we decided not to take the other girls. Amanda wanted Chad to take her this time, since he had to work the weekend of the regional competition. They drove most of the way Friday evening and spent the night in a hotel before heading to the competition Saturday morning. They did take Flat Stanley, but they forgot to take any pictures, and then the camera batteries died before the awards ceremony.

They won Second Place in their problem/division! That means they qualified for the World Competition at the end of May! It was quite thrilling for everyone and unexpected for a first-year team. (Thankfully, the school board and the parent-teacher group have agreed to pick up most of the tab for sending the whole team to Michigan for five days!)
